Bastille Neighborhood Projects Advance With Remodeling and Recent Events

Remodeling at the Opéra Bastille remains underway, adding a new foyer, performance space, workshop and 800 additional seats while opening the building deeper into the surrounding neighborhood. A major makeover of Place de la Bastille is also planned to pedestrianize around half the area and install a new stairway down to the Bassin de l'Arsenal that passes under Metro line 1.

Opéra Bastille Remodeling

Place de la Bastille Makeover

The planned changes at Place de la Bastille include partial pedestrianization and a new stairway connection to the Bassin de l'Arsenal. These alterations seek to improve pedestrian flow and link the square more directly with the canal area below Metro line 1. The former office building at 42-44 Boulevard de la Bastille is being restructured into a 96-room smart hotel plus residential units and commercial space.

Bastille Marais Residential Program

A new residential program called Bastille Marais launched between Place des Vosges and Place de la Bastille. The initiative adds housing options in the 11th arrondissement near established landmarks. Archaeology Days took place on Place de la Bastille from June 12 to 14 2026, featuring a dedicated village and access to the Tour de la Liberté base.

The average property price in the Bastille neighborhood stands at €9,408 per square metre based on 2025-2026 data, with values ranging from €7,997 to €10,819 per square metre depending on street and building condition. An alternative 2026 estimate places the average at €10,773 per square metre as of April 1. Prices have increased by approximately 2 percent over the past year.
