Belleville Infrastructure Projects Target Growth and Daily Services for Residents

Belleville has approved a $43.1 million Avonlough Road sewage pumping station, the city's largest infrastructure project, to serve 9,000 new residents over 25 years. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2026 and finish by December 2028.

Street and sewer upgrades under way

Bridge Street East reconstruction began in May 2026 between Herchimer Avenue and Haig Road to replace water mains, sanitary sewers and road surfaces, with completion expected by winter 2027. Council also awarded a $4 million contract to rebuild Orchard Drive and Pringle Drive, including water, sanitary and storm sewer replacements, with work due to finish by the end of 2026. The 2026 Approved Capital Budget sets aside $4.4 million for road resurfacing and $6.3 million for the North Riverfront Trail Extension, alongside Old Highway 2 Reconstruction and Meyers Pier Rehabilitation.

Transit funding adds to local options

Federal and provincial governments are providing more than $12.5 million for six public transit projects, including new hybrid buses and the Hydro Corridor Trail, while the city contributes $4.1 million. These investments support reliable bus service and additional active-transport routes that residents use for work and leisure.

Work on the Avonlough Road station will continue through 2028, while other projects reach completion on shorter timelines. Residents can follow updates through city channels on construction schedules and any temporary traffic changes along the affected corridors.
