Belleville Infrastructure Projects Target Everyday Services for Residents
Road and sewer upgrades across multiple streets and parks are scheduled to address aging systems and support local access.
How we reported this
Belleville has approved a $43.1 million contract with Peak Construction Group Ltd. for the first phase of the Avonlough Road sewage pumping station. Construction on the city’s largest infrastructure project is set to begin in summer 2026 and finish by December 2028.
Why Upgrades Matter for Daily Access
These projects focus on replacing aging water mains, sewers and roads that residents use for commuting and services. The Bridge Street East reconstruction between Herchimer Avenue and Haig Road started in May 2026 and targets water and sewer lines, with work expected to wrap up by winter 2027. Similar work on Orchard Drive and Pringle Drive, awarded to K. Mulrooney Trucking for just over $4 million, is due for completion by the end of 2026.
Capital Budget Projects in Progress
The 2026 Approved Capital Budget lists additional work including Old Highway 2 Reconstruction, Meyers Pier Rehabilitation, Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion and Fire Hall #2 Relocation. The North East Industrial Park expansion involves more than 900 acres acquired to double the park’s size, along with road servicing and new sidewalk and trail construction.
Community Impact on Local Travel and Safety
Residents will see construction activity on key routes and in industrial areas. The sidewalk and trail work at the North East Industrial Park is intended to improve worker safety during ongoing road servicing. These changes are part of efforts to maintain reliable water, sewer and road networks that support daily movement in Belleville.
Construction timelines mean temporary disruptions on affected streets, yet the completed systems are expected to provide more consistent service. The city’s engineering and development department continues to manage the schedule for each project listed in the 2026 capital documents.
