Canal Saint Martin Freezes Water, Waste Fees Through 2026

The measure applies to all residential accounts in the 10th arrondissement section along the canal and takes effect from 1 August.
Why the change arrives now
National energy and food price pressures have continued into 2026, with local authorities required to set their own rates each summer under the municipal finance code. The 2026 budget paper, adopted on 27 June, records that the city council chose to hold these three charges at 2025 levels rather than apply the inflation-linked rise permitted by law.
Residents who pay quarterly water bills will therefore receive the same amount as in the previous quarter, while households using the municipal waste service will see no change in the annual levy collected through property tax statements. Local transport pass holders using the RATP network within the arrondissement will continue to pay existing fares, as the city contribution to the regional transport authority remains unchanged.
Next steps for households
Utility statements issued after 1 August will reflect the freeze. Residents who have already paid in advance will receive a credit on their next bill. The municipal website will publish updated payment schedules by 15 July, and the local tax office has extended the deadline for payment queries to 31 August.
Policy analysts note that the freeze covers only these three charges; other local fees such as parking permits and market stall rents remain subject to separate annual adjustments listed in the same budget document.
