The state legislature passed the Regional Development Act on 6 July 2026. The measure directs 40 million euros from the state infrastructure account to projects in Montmartre, including extensions to the local rail line and resurfacing of three main thoroughfares near the Sacré-Cœur district.
State budget papers released with the bill note that Montmartre sits on a key corridor between the city centre and northern suburbs. Lawmakers added the funding line after the Montmartre City Council submitted a list of deferred maintenance items in May.
Under the act, the transport department will issue contracts for track work and signal upgrades. Local service providers that handle maintenance for public buildings will also receive portions of the allocation for station cleaning and security staffing once the new rail stops open.
Employment and service provisions
The bill text requires that at least 35 percent of the construction contracts go to firms based within the Montmartre postcode. Workforce training grants of 2 million euros are earmarked for the Montmartre Vocational Centre to prepare residents for heavy-equipment and electrical trades.
Policy analysts at the state planning office calculate that the projects will sustain 850 on-site positions during peak construction phases in 2027 and 2028. The same document lists an additional 120 permanent roles for transit operations and facility upkeep once the lines are complete.
Next steps for residents
Procurement notices are scheduled for publication in August. The Montmartre City Council will hold two public briefings on 22 and 29 July to outline bidding rules and training enrolment dates. Work on the first rail segment is listed to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
