Montmartre Council Allocates €2.3 Million to Expand Community Services

The measure expands eligibility for existing social assistance offices that operate in the 18th arrondissement. Residents who use food distribution points, senior activity centers and family counseling services will see changes in access rules beginning January 1 2027.
The decision follows the release of the council's mid-year budget review, which showed rising demand at three local facilities on Rue des Abbesses, Rue Lepic and Place du Tertre. Officials cited increased use of these sites by households facing higher living costs. The reallocation shifts funds from administrative overhead to direct service contracts without raising property taxes for the current fiscal year.
Changes for Neighborhood Residents
Households in Montmartre will now qualify for weekly food parcels if their income falls below the updated threshold set in the adopted budget document. Senior residents aged 65 and older can book an additional two visits per month at the Rue Caulaincourt activity center. Families with children under 12 gain priority placement in after-school programs at the local community hall on Boulevard de Clichy.
Local advocates note that the policy document specifies these services must maintain the same operating hours as in 2025. No new facilities are planned. The changes apply only to programs already listed in the council's community services directory.
Policy analysts say the 2.3 million euro figure equals 11 percent of the total community services line item in the 2026 budget paper. The document projects that 1,800 additional resident visits will occur across the three sites during the first quarter of 2027.
Implementation begins with contract renewals in September. The council's finance committee will review enrollment data in December and report adjustments at the January 2027 session. Residents can submit applications through the existing online portal or at the three service locations starting in October.
