Persistent complaints about overcrowded buses on Rue du Bac and insufficient connections to the Place Saint-Sulpice area have put pressure on local governments to act before the 2027 regional games. What Changes Residents Can Expect

Practical impacts for residents will depend on where they live and which lines they use. The city’s bus line upgrades, focusing initially on lines 5, 8 and 11, are scheduled to begin on 15 October. Additional late-night services will operate on Fridays and Saturdays between 00:30 and 02:00 on the three busiest routes, a move the council says could support around 4,000 additional evening commutes weekly once fully operational. The fare changes adopted include a new reduced-rate monthly pass for pensioners and jobseekers, expected to lower monthly commuting costs for up to 6,000 eligible residents, based on 2025 Social Services registration records.

For families living near Jardin du Luxembourg, the council’s planned expansion of the weekend line 7 will make it easier to reach sports and cultural events. Costs and Rollout Timetable

Budget documents tabled at the meeting show a total allocation of €13.8 million to cover new buses, staff hiring and digital platform upgrades. According to the Saint Germain Des Pres Department of Finance, final expenditure is projected between €12.5 and €14.2 million, depending on vehicle procurement timelines. The phased rollout means that the October adjustments will focus on timetable changes, while infrastructure improvements (such as new bus shelters at Odéon and Saint-Germain Market) will appear between February and May 2027.
