This project aims to enhance visibility and energy management, serving as a functional piece of the city's broader technology strategy. Complementing these physical changes, the city is prioritizing the expansion of both physical and digital infrastructure through its Economic Development Strategic Plan (2025-2028). This plan focuses on modernizing electrical systems to better support the needs of local businesses and residents.
These efforts are guided by an Information Technology Service Review and Master Plan, for which funding was approved by City Council in 2023. The master plan serves as a roadmap for the city's ongoing digital infrastructure development, ensuring that technology investments are aligned with long-term urban growth requirements.
Transit Technology Upgrades
Public transportation is currently undergoing a significant tech-focused transition. The city is implementing a Smart Fare Card Project, which aims to provide residents with a broader range of payment options while enhancing security on the bus network. This project represents a total investment of $480,000, according to city documents.
To support this push for better transit access, the city has expanded its fleet with the purchase of four new 12-metre hybrid buses and one conventional bus. These acquisitions were supported by federal and provincial infrastructure investments aimed at fostering active communities and improving connectivity throughout the municipality.
As these initiatives move forward, the city continues to rely on the framework established by the 2023 technology review to oversee the implementation of these new digital and mechanical systems.
