Public spaces on offer
The Bastille Gardens on Rue de la Liberté runs free tai chi classes every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7 a.m., led by instructors from the city parks department. Further east, the Old Market District on Boulevard Saint-Michel hosts a weekly Sunday farmers market where vendors give away surplus produce after 2 p.m. to anyone who brings their own bags. Both sites sit within a short walk of the Gare District metro stop.
City data released last month recorded 1.4 million visits to Bastille’s free parks and plazas in June, a 12 percent increase over the same period in 2025. The parks department attributes the rise to extended daylight hours and the addition of three new shaded seating areas along the waterfront.

Updated schedules for July events appear on the Bastille Parks website each Monday morning. Residents who arrive before 9 a.m. on weekdays can secure shaded spots at the Gardens without waiting, while the Old Market District fills after noon on Sundays.
