Paris Celebrates Bastille Day: 10 Free Events Including Fireworks

Parisians and visitors alike can celebrate Bastille Day without spending a single euro. From the free museums that open their doors to the city's legendary fire-station parties, July 14 offers a full calendar of cost-free events.

Place de la Bastille, the historic epicentre of the French Revolution, is itself a free attraction. The square is open to the public at all hours, and you can wander around the July Column and admire the gold-leaf Génie de la Liberté statue without paying a thing. Free museums on Bastille Day

Major Paris museums offer free admission on July 14. The Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Rodin Museum, and Les Invalides all waive their entry fees. The evening's main event is the concert at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and the subsequent fireworks display on the Champ-de-Mars. Both are free and open to everyone without a booking. Arrive early: crowd control is tight and space fills up fast.

A final piece of practical advice: pack water and comfortable shoes. Many of the free attractions, the museums, the square, the fire-station parties, are within walking distance of each other, and the Métro runs all night on Bastille Day.
