Belleville Tours and Programs Expand as Summer Bookings Surge in July

Belleville Tourism Office logged 2,500 bookings for guided neighborhood tours during the first week of July alone.

Interest has grown because global travel routes face repeated interruptions from shipping lane closures and fuel price spikes that began in early June.

Two programs anchor the current lineup. The River District History Walk starts each morning at the Belleville Ferry Terminal on Water Street and covers six blocks of converted warehouses before ending at the 1892 lighthouse. The second route, run by the Belleville Explorers Club, departs from the corner of Elm Avenue and 5th Street and visits the Belleville Museum of Industry for a 45-minute stop on manufacturing records from 1920 onward.

River District and Central Square routes

Both tours operate daily through August 31. The River District walk runs at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.; the Explorers Club outing leaves at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Each group is capped at 18 people to keep the pace steady on sidewalks shared with commuters.

Tickets sell for $28 per adult and $14 for children under 12. Sales figures released July 10 show a 40 percent jump over the same week in 2025. The office attributes the increase to residents canceling overseas flights and choosing day-long local itineraries instead.

Booking and next steps

Slots can be reserved on the Belleville Tourism website or at the information kiosk in Central Square, which opens at 8 a.m. weekdays. Walk-up spots remain available only on weekday mornings after 10 a.m. Participants are advised to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as the July average temperature at noon reaches 84 degrees along the riverfront.

Additional dates for the same routes will open for August on July 20 at the same prices.
