Le Marais Residents Sprint Two Parkrun Routes Every Saturday Morning
Le Marais residents are logging steady kilometres on Saturday mornings at two established routes that keep the weekly 5k accessible without leaving the fourth arrondissement.
How we reported this
More than 180 runners gathered at the eastern edge of Square du Temple last Saturday for the 7:45 a.m. start of the Le Marais parkrun, the largest turnout recorded at the venue since its 2023 launch.
The spike coincides with longer daylight hours and warmer pavement that draws office workers and retirees alike into the open air before the weekend markets open. Paris recorded 14 consecutive days above 24 degrees Celsius through early July, prompting fitness groups to shift sessions outdoors rather than rely on indoor studios near Rue des Rosiers.
Two routes within 800 metres
The Square du Temple loop begins at the playground gate on Rue Eugène Spuller and follows a flat 2.5-kilometre circuit twice around the chestnut trees before finishing at the bandstand. A second option starts from the southern gate of Coulée Verte René-Dumont at Rue de la Bastille, where participants run the elevated greenway west toward Opéra Bastille and back, adding gentle elevation changes that suit intermediate runners. Both events are timed by volunteer marshals from the local chapter of Parkrun France and require only a free online barcode for results upload.
City data released in May showed 312 registered participants across the two Le Marais sites in the first quarter of 2026, up 27 percent from the same period last year. Entry remains free, though the nearby Café des Musées on Rue du Bourg Tibourg offers a 3-euro post-run coffee voucher for runners who present their finish token. The next events are scheduled for 12 July and continue every Saturday through August.
Getting started this weekend
Arrive fifteen minutes early at either gate to collect a barcode if registering on site. Runners are asked to stay on marked paths to avoid disturbing the pétanque courts at Square du Temple and to yield to cyclists on the Coulée Verte. Those new to the format can join the 8 a.m. briefing led by the volunteer team before the horn sounds.
